This project challenged me to create a set of three postcards that worked together as a set. As a Texan, I knew I needed to focus on the iconic cities of Austin, Houston, and San Antonio.
I began the process with concept sketches. I eventually combined elements from the first two sketches into the final design.
The following preliminary drafts of my design combined well-known landmarks and destinations with native Texas flowers (bluebonnets, Indian Blankets, and olive tree flowers), all on a backdrop of the respective city's map.
While not perfect, the overall layout took shape.
My ten years in the business have taught me to pay attention to feedback. You might miss something because of your tunnel vision when concentrating so hard on a design. There was too much repetition in some design elements and more energy was needed in others. Through team discussions, I learned to make different aspects pop and even included more features elsewhere to achieve the final design.
